What our orthopedic nurses do during a visit

• Surgical wound and dressing checks, changing dressings as per the surgeon's schedule
• Monitoring for signs of infection such as redness, discharge or fever
• Pain management support, including medication timing and non-drug comfort measures
• Vitals monitoring - blood pressure, pulse, oxygen levels where relevant
• Assistance with safe positioning and repositioning to prevent pressure sores
• Coordination with the surgeon's office for follow-up scheduling and reporting concerns

Short visits versus longer shifts

Some patients need only a brief daily visit for a dressing change and vitals check. Others, particularly elderly patients recovering from major surgery or those with limited family support at home, benefit from longer shifts covering meals, mobility assistance and more frequent monitoring. We help families choose based on the specific recovery needs rather than a one-size package.

Reporting back to the surgeon

We keep clear notes on wound appearance, pain levels and any concerns from each visit, so that when the patient returns for a follow-up appointment, or if a query needs to go to the surgeon's team sooner, there is an accurate record to refer to.
