Catheter Care at Home
Catheter-associated urinary infection is one of the most common reasons a stable home patient ends up back in hospital - and it is largely preventable with correct hygiene, drainage discipline and timely changes.
CareGlobal provides catheter insertion, change and daily care at home across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane.

Who Needs Catheter Care

- Prostate enlargement patients awaiting or after surgery
- Neurogenic bladder in stroke and spinal injury patients
- Palliative patients where comfort and dryness are the priority
How It Works
- Assessment of catheter type, size and change schedule
- Nurse visit for insertion or change with sterile technique
- Family and attendant trained in daily hygiene and bag handling
- Output charted and reviewed for infection or obstruction signs
- Escalation to the urologist for recurrent blockage or bleeding
Preventing Catheter Infection
The rules are unglamorous and they work: keep the drainage bag below bladder level at all times, never let the bag touch the floor, do not disconnect the closed system unnecessarily, clean the meatus daily with soap and water, maintain fluid intake unless restricted, and change the catheter on schedule rather than when it blocks. Cloudy, foul-smelling urine, fever or new confusion in an elderly patient is escalated the same day.
Local Coverage & Context
Catheter care is a routine part of our bedridden and post-prostate-surgery caseload across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane. Where a family manages daily care themselves, we still recommend a nurse visit for every scheduled change - and we train the attendant on hygiene and bag handling, since that is where most preventable infections actually originate.
