Stoma Care at Home in Mumbai
A new stoma is rarely a medical problem after discharge - it is a confidence problem. Families are frightened of the bag leaking, the skin breaking down, or doing something that hurts the patient, and nobody has shown them slowly, at home, how it is actually done.

CareGlobal's nurses manage colostomy, ileostomy and urostomy care at home across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane, and train the family until they can do it without us.
What's Included
- Colostomy, ileostomy and urostomy bag emptying and change
- Peristomal skin assessment, cleaning and barrier protection
- Correct measurement and cutting of the flange to stoma size
- Leak troubleshooting - convex appliances, seals, belts and pastes
- Output monitoring for dehydration risk in high-output stomas
- Step-by-step family training with a written home routine
Who Needs Stoma Care at Home
- Patients discharged after colorectal or bowel surgery
- Cancer patients with a temporary or permanent stoma
- Elderly patients who cannot manage the appliance themselves
- Families struggling with repeated leaks or sore peristomal skin
How It Works
- First visit for stoma assessment and appliance review
- Appliance type and size corrected if the current one is leaking
- Change schedule set - typically every 3-5 days, plus emptying routine
- Diet and fluid guidance to control output consistency
- Family trained over 2-3 visits until confident and independent
Skin Is The Early Warning
Almost every stoma complication announces itself on the skin first. Redness in a ring around the stoma means output is getting under the flange - usually the aperture was cut too large or the appliance is being stretched over an uneven abdomen. Our nurses measure the stoma at each change during the first six weeks, because a stoma shrinks as swelling settles and an appliance that fitted on discharge day will leak by week three if nobody re-measures it.
Local Coverage & Context
Most of our stoma cases in Mumbai come home after colorectal surgery at the major tertiary hospitals, and appliance availability varies sharply by suburb. We help families source the right pouch and barrier locally in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane rather than settling for whatever the nearest chemist stocks, which is the single biggest cause of avoidable leaks.
